Abstract

O livro “City and Port: Transformation of Port Cities – London, Barcelona, New York and Rotterdam”, da autoria de Han Meyer, foi publicado em 1999, constituindo uma referência incontornável no estudo das cidades portuárias e, particularmente, da problemática da relação porto-cidade na perspetiva do planeamento urbano. A compreensão do interesse despertado pela obra, assim como a perceção mais efetiva da sua relevância e oportunidade científicas, exigem que nos retenhamos – ainda que de forma necessariamente breve – na contextualização prévia do tema nela tratado.

The book “City and Port: Transformation of Port Cities – London, Barcelona, New York and Rotterdam”, by Han Meyer, was published in 1999, and is a reference book on the study of port cities and, especially, in the issues regarding port-city relations from the perspective of urban planning. The attention the book gained upon its publication and the need to understand its scientific relevance and timeliness requires that we briefly contextualize its theme.
