| dc.description.abstract | Writing was important for Machado de Castro’s intellectual affirmation. The ability to give literary expression to his ideas constituted a tool that he knew how to use appropriately in defence of creative freedom and the status of the artist. This essay seeks to analyse the written work of the master of the equestrian statue and its significance in his time, discovering this other side of Machado de Castro, highlighting the contribution that his literary works made to the construction of the complex profile of the most notable Portuguese sculptor of the period. | |
